"Divorce is a time when you can gain a new perspective in life."
After your divorce has been finalized and the dust is settling down, you'll probably be faced with a lot of thoughts and questions. Even for contentious divorce cases, feelings of relief may still be mixed with feelings of grief. At times, getting creative with how you cope with the divorce is the best thing you can do for yourself. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Have a divorce party - A divorce party with a few close family and friends who understand what you went through in your divorce would be just the thing to pick your spirits up. It's a creative way of saying that one part of your life is over and that you're leaving it behind for something new and exciting. Go all out for the party if you want to, you can even have your closest buddies stay with you for the ceremonial burning of the marriage license.
2. Buy a divorce engagement ring - It may be strange for you to be investing on something that sounds so sad, but many people find comfort in wearing a reminder of being unmarried on their fingers. If you were able to get a generous divorce settlement, you can even go all out and treat yourself to a divorce diamond ring.
3. Redecorate your house just the way you want it - If you've always wanted to paint the house pink but your ex husband wouldn't agree with it, well, now is the time for you to indulge yourself and paint the house in whatever color you want. Get a taste of what it's like to not have to consult with somebody before you buy something for your house.
4. Start a new hobby - Marriage has a way of eating up a lot of your time and resources. Maybe now is the time for you to take up a new hobby that you've always thought of doing but never had the time to do. A lot of people find that doing something useful and creative for self-satisfaction rather than solely for profit can improve their well-being and self-image in surprising ways. It's also quite fun if you can start a new hobby in a social environment such as learning how to paint by taking painting classes, or attending photography classes. Not only will you learn a new craft, you can also meet other people and interact with them in a fun environment.
5. Do volunteer work - Divorce is a time when you can gain a new perspective in life. Now that you're not married anymore, you may find that you have more free time in your hands than you did before. Using some of that to help people in need may be just the thing to help you see the positive side of life.
