A recent report by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) shows the latest data in 2009 that divorce, marriage and birth rates are on a decline.
The center estimates that the rate of marriages per 1,000 people in 2009 is 6.8 compared with previous years where the rate is 7.1 (2008) and 7.3 (2007). Births are at 13.5 per 1,000 women between the ages of 15-44, compared with earlier data of 13.9 in 2008 and 14.3 in 2007. Divorces are also on a decline. The latest data shows that 3.4 people out of 1,000 got divorced in 2009 compared to 2008's 3.5 and 2007's 3.6.
Analysts say that this could probably be an indicator that people are less inclined to make life-changing decisions during a depressed economy. Life decisions such as having children, getting married, and getting a divorce are often put on hold because of economic uncertainty. |
