According to Men's Health magazine, Cheyenne could be touted as the Splitsville of the United States because of the number of people who go there to get divorced.
There are many reasons why Cheyenne is gaining some national attention. One is that statistically, Cheyenne has the highest number of divorces in the country. That's further aggravated by the fact that it's a lot easier to get divorced in Cheyenne than in other places.
In Cheyenne, their divorce laws are quite lax. In fact, the waiting period is just 60 days, as opposed to other cities' 6 months to a year. After you've stayed there 60 days, the waiting period has been satisfied and you can already apply for a divorce.
Another qualifier used on why Cheyenne is being touted as Splitsville is the percentage of the population which got a divorce as well as the number of licensed marriage and family therapists in the area.
The magazine also listed San Jose, California as a place where couples are least likely to get divorced. |
